Common questions

What is a Base64 image / data URL?

The image's bytes encoded as text and embedded directly in HTML or CSS (data:image/png;base64,…) — no separate file, no extra network request. The page carries its own image.

When should I embed instead of linking?

Small images only: icons, logos, tiny backgrounds under ~10 KB. Embedding makes the file about 33% bigger than the original and can't be cached separately, so it's a net loss for anything substantial — the size readout above tells you the damage.

How do I use the output?

Paste the data URL anywhere a normal image URL goes: <img src="…"> in HTML, url(…) in CSS, or email signatures. The "copy as <img> tag" button gives you ready-made HTML.
